EFL Cup: Newcastle dethrones Arsenal and qualifies for the final

Newcastle United secured their place in the EFL Cup final by beating Arsenal 2-0 in the second leg at St James’ Park on february 5, 2025.

Explosive start for Newcastle

Right from kickoff, Newcastle United displayed their intentions by pressing high on Arsenal’s defense. In the 4th minute, Alexander Isak, well-served by Anthony Gordon, found the back of the net, but his goal was disallowed for offside. The second half saw Arsenal continue their defensive mistakes. In the 52nd minute, William Saliba lost the ball to Anthony Gordon, who narrowly missed doubling the lead from the center circle.
